Friday night was the San Diego Museum of Art’s annual Art Alive shin-dig. It was a totally grown up affair that was loads of fun. There were passed hors d’oeuvres, snacks, desserts, and lots of drinks. There were also plenty of interactive activities, my favorite was the photo-flip book where guests got to play around with wacky props and make a flip book full of fun-filled antics.
This once a year fundraiser is all about reinterpreting master works in the form of floral arrangements. There was a wide variety of styles represented and you could really see the similarities in quite a few of the flowers and paintings. This ikebana arrangement (below) was one of my favorites along with the cactus (4th on left below) . Although I was blown away by all of the arrangements, two of my favorite paintings, one by El Greco and another by Bosch were not represented. Perhaps they already had their turn in a previous year? I know those would have been really challenging, but I can’t help feeling disappointed because an interpretation in flowers would have been beyond awesome.
