This is the first time we are growing olallieberries. Really, it’s the first time in many years that I am able to enjoy this flavorful berry and a it’s bonus that they are growing in my yard. The first time I had a taste of olallieberry was in a sorbet that had such a fresh and unique flavor, a cross between blackberry and raspberry. Ever since, I have searched for it on dessert menus and at farmers markets.
Lately, I’ve been enjoying them as a topping on morning yogurt with granola and fresh off the vine. Here, we tried something different and muddled them with gin, a squeeze of lemon, sugar, and topped off with a splash of soda water.
