good food + awesome travel & occasional odd bits

Mexico City

Pyramids, churches, street food and colorful buildings come to mind when I think of Mexico City. It is all this, but also so much more. On this visit, we were on the hunt for the new (to us) and the exciting. It’s been nearly 10 years since I’ve been back and much has changed. Some parts of the city such as Reforma were completely unrecognizable to me with its promenade of American chain restaurants and shiny new shops. Other areas were more quaint with quality independent boutiques, galleries, and bread/pastry shops peppered amongst walkable neighborhoods.

Mostly, changes I noticed were progressive and showed the best of this modern city, rich in history, and vibrant culture but with an eye toward the future. From tranquil Xochimilco to trendy mescal bars and hipster neighborhoods in between, we gravitated toward discovering new gems and revisiting some old favorites.
