The Sazerac cocktail, a celebrated New Orleans original, has stood the test of time. It’s a classic cocktail originally made with Peychaud’s bitters, absinthe, and rye whiskey. Nowadays, it’s ingredients can vary slightly depending on the bartender and ingredients available. As you will see here, we used our homemade bitters instead of Peychaud’s and I must say, it was very good. It was also a hot day so this was a nice way to relax and cool off.
2 oz rye whiskey
1 tsp simple syrup
dash of bitters (usually Peychaud)
2 tsp absinthe
dash Angostura bitters
lemon peel for garnish, twisted
Combine all ingredients in a glass and stir together. Pour into a pre-chilled glass and garnish with a twist of lemon peel. Cheers!
