We spent a weekend in LA eating, drinking, and listening to music at the Hollywood Bowl. We always try to hit up a different restaurant and bar each time. Lucky for us, things are ever changing in LA so there’s lots to choose from. This time around, we dined at Rivera Restaurant in downtown. It did not disappoint. My favorites were the appetizers of tamale and the arepa with soft shell crab. I would return for these two dishes but I would want a double order! We also had duck and sauteed fish which were ok, but not as exciting as the appetizers. For dessert we satisfies the sweet tooth with a trio of flan and the chocolate cake with ancho chile and avocado lime sauce (very refreshing and unique). I enjoyed it so much I hope to try making a similar sauce here at home. I also liked how they powdered the plates with amusing captions.
After dinner it was time to check out Edison. I’ve been wanting to come here for quite a while and we finally made it! I must say, I was impressed. What a gorgeous place. Although the drinks were nothing to get excited about, the decor more than made up for it. Truth be told, we thought cocktails at Villains Tavern were a lot better. But Edison couldn’t be beat for ambiance.
The next day we headed to LACMA to see the Tim Burton exhibit which completely exceeded my expectations. There was so much on display and it was a lot to take in on one visit. I wish I could have returned on a less crowded day or perhaps on an evening. Nevertheless, I was impressed and left feeling excited and inspired. Life would be so much more interesting if we could all have an imagination like that!
Before heading home, we stopped at Olvera Street for some taquitos. We used to go to a stand there for enchiladas that I would always crave. This time, we had to try something different. I can’t believe I never had the taquitos at Cielito Lindo!!! Delicious. I thoroughly enjoyed breakfast/lunch and can’t wait to go back. This is making me hungry…
